One of the areas of interest of my patients at Yager Esthetics has been spider veins and varicose veins. I have always done cosmetic surgery of the face , breast, and body, but have not offered any solutions for these blue lines that embarrass women (and men). As a leading provider of cosmetic plastic surgery and esthetic services in the Hispanic community, I decided to research the safest and most effective treatments.
For true varicose veins, the very thick and bulgy ones that stick out from the skin, I still refer patients to a vascular surgeon for treatment. Venous disease like this needs a full workup of underlying circulation, and the surgeries are best performed by someone with vascular surgical training. Open surgeries, as well as endovenous laser options are available.
For the true spider veins, and thin varicose veins of 3mm diameter or less, we offer two options. Some are amenable to laser therapy. Given the unique challenges of Hispanic skin, a test spot is done to insure that darkening of the skin is less likely. A special type of laser that is safer for darker skin tones is always used.
The tried and true method of sclerotherapy, or injections into the veins to dry them up, is also used. We have the latest product, Asclera, which is a concentrated solution that is very effective in treating these annoying venous problems.
If veins are a problem, we invite you to visit the office for a consultation so that my nurses and I can evaluate your particular problem, and review the options with you. I promise your visit will not be in “vein”.
